Cold weather and stronger trade was the story from the Tattersalls Guineas breeze-up sale held in Newmarket last week. Richard Knight purchased 2 colts from the sale both bought as private sales having failed to meet their vendors value in the ring and both represented excellent value.
The first colt purchased was Lot 108 by US stallion Mizzen Mast. This sharp looking grey colt breezed a very fast time and came well recommended by his vendor Jim McCartan. He looks every inch the 2yo so will hopefully provide his owners with plenty of fun during the Summer months. He cost £29,000 and will be trained by Clive Cox.
The second purchase was Lot 212 a colt by first season sire Mayson. Mayson got off the mark as a Sire in some style just 48 hours after this horse was purchased when his son Golden Applause bolted up at Newmarket on 1000 Guineas day. This colt was another fast breezer and once again came from a very well respected breeze-up consigner in William Slattery. He cost 25,000gns and will be trained by John Quinn – shares are available in this colt if you are interested.
