It’s was a good day at the office yesterday when 3 of my yearling purchases won races for trainers William Knight & John Quinn.
First up was Wotabreeze (trained by John Quinn) who won a 9f handicap at Hamilton – he cost just €10,000 (approx. £7,500) as a yearling and ran a good ran when 2nd on his handicap debut on 2nd May and ran on well to win yesterday – that was only his 5th start and he looks progressive.
Second up was Exalted (trained by William Knight) who was back on his favoured all-weather surface at Kempton Park in a 0-80 class 4 handicap. He was drawn widest of all but managed to get to the front and make all holding on well to win by 3/4 length. This was his 3rd win of 2016 and is another lightly raced horse who is improving.
The third winner of the night was Royal Reef who gave William Knight a double on the card and a treble for Champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa, once again in a 0-80 class 4 handicap at Kempton Park. Royal Reef was making just his 5th career start and his first stepped up to 2 miles which was evidently the key. He led for much of the way and held on well and could go on and win a few more races at this distance.
