Golden Birthday who I purchased from the Cheltenham November National Hunt sale having run 2nd on his debut showed what an exciting prospect he is with victory in the £35,000 Class 2 hurdle at Newton Abbot on Saturday. The race was run over 2m 5f and the result never looked in doubt as Golden Birthday made all and won by 10 lengths with the favourite Wait For Me in second. The son of Poliglote has now won or placed in 12 of his 14 starts and has given his owner Gary Stevens a huge amount of fun and success and with a likely handicap rise from 132 to approximately 140 he will now contest some of the best handicap hurdles around. Congratulations to Gary and to trainer Harry Fry.
