It was strong trade at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sales with 8 horses making over £200,000 but Richard Knight was delighted to come away with 5 purchases on behalf of trainers William Knight & John and Sean Quinn.
The first horse purchased was Lot 161 a son of Irish National Stud’s 1st season sire Dragon Pulse. Dragon Pulse is the highest ever rated 2yo by Kyllachy and is out of a stakes placed mare himself. The colt is a brother to the highly rated Mr Majeika and to recent Newbury debut winner Storm Rising and he was purchased for £40,000 on behalf of Sussex based trainer William Knight.
The second purchase was Lot 237 a daughter of Darley’s 1st season sire Helmet. Helmet was a dual Group 1 winning 2-year-old by the excellent 2-year-old sire Exceed And Excel. This filly is the 3rd foal and sister to the 91-rated Iffraaj colt Navigate and was purchased for £38,000 on behalf of Malton based trainers John & Sean Quinn.
The third purchase was Lot 290 a son of Ballylinch Stud’s Dream Ahead. Dream Ahead was a Joint Champion 2yo himself and has made a good start with his first 2yo runners in 2015 including the unbeaten Group winner Final Frontier. The colt is the first foal out of the black-type performing Zamindar mare Get Happy and was purchased for £22,000 on behalf of William Knight.
The fourth purchase was Lot 317 a son of Cheveley Park’s Kyllachy. Kyllachy is a proven sire and source of speed and his progeny include the likes of Sole Power, Krypton Factor, Dragon Pulse, Arabian Gleam, Tariq, etc. The colt is out of the highly successful mare Hill Welcome and is closely related to 2015 Group 3 winning 2yo Kachy. He cost £38,000 and was purchased on behalf of John & Sean Quinn.
The fifth and final purchase of the sale was Lot 432 a son of Coolmore’s 1st season sire Power. Power is the ‘one who got away’ for Richard Knight as he agreed to purchase him as a yearling after he was led out of the ring unsold at Tattersalls only for him to fail the vet. Power went on to win the Coventry Stakes Gr.2 at Royal Ascot, the National Stakes Gr.1 and the Irish 2000 Guineas Gr.1. This colt is the third foal out of the 3 time winning mare My Sweet Georgia who has already produced the high-class black-type performer You’re Fired. He cost £35,000 and was purchased on behalf of John & Sean Quinn.
