6 Yearlings purchased from Tattersalls Ireland

Posted on 24 September 2015

Richard Knight returned from Tattersalls Ireland Yearling Sales this week with 6 purchases on behalf of trainers John Quinn & William Knight. Trade was strong for the right individuals but there was great value to had and with Sterling strong against the Euro the purchase prices were very reasonable.

The first purchase was Lot 10 – a Requinto filly out of the Selkirk mare A L’Aube. L’Aube is the dam of 3 winners from 5 runners viz 93-rated Racing Mate, 88-rated Amethyst Dawn & 80-rated Jpevie. Requinto by Dansili was a high-class 2yo winning both the Molecomb Stakes Gr.3 and the Flying Childers Gr.2 and these are his first yearlings. The filly cost €20,000 (approx £15,000) and will be trained by John Quinn.

The second purchase was Lot 19 (pictured below) – an Elnadim colt out of the winning Tiger Hill mare Albeed. Albeed is the dam of 1 winner from 1 runner viz 2015 2yo winner Halsall who is 80-rated and took his owners to the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. Elnadim was a top-class sprinter and has sired the likes of Al Qasi, Wi Dud, Elnawin – he is well capable of siring high-class 2yo’s & sprinters. The colt cost €23,000 (approx £17,000) and will be trained by William Knight.

Elnadim Colt 2

The third purchase was Lot 44 (pictured below) – a Thewayyouare colt out of the Danehill mare Ask Annie. Ask Annie is the dam of 2 winners from 2 runners viz 81-rated Askmour and the 79-rated King’s Warrant and is herself closely related to Gr.1 winners Youmzain & Creachadoir. Thewayyouare was a top-class 2yo in France and is from an exceptional family – he is also the sire of UAE Derby Gr.2 winner & Breeder’s Cup Classic Gr.1 2nd Toast Of New York. The colt cost €24,000 (approx £17,500) and will be trained by William Knight.

Thewayyouare Colt

The fourth purchase was Lot 112 – a Sir Prancealot colt out of the Holy Roman Emperor mare Crimson Sunrise. Crimson Sunrise was herself a dual winning 2-year-old and was rated 84 – this is her first foal. Sir Prancealot was a precocious fast 2yo who won the Flying Childers Gr.2 and these are his first 2yo’s. The colt cost €17,000 (approx £12,500) and will be trained by John Quinn.

The fifth purchase was Lot 139 – a Dutch Art colt out of the Tagula mare Duchess Dora. Duchess Dora was a 7-time winner rated 102 and was placed in the Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes, L.R. – this is her first foal. Dutch Art was a top-class 2-year-old winning the Prix Morny Gr.1 and Middle Park Gr.1 and is now an excellent proven sire. His stock include the Gr.1 winning Sprinter Garswood (purchased by Richard Knight as a foal for 19,000gns) and Slade Power. The colt cost €42,000 (approx £31,000) and will be trained by John Quinn.

The sixth and final purchase was Lot 321 (pictured below) – a Famous Name colt out of the Clodovil mare Nice Wee Girl. Nice Wee Girl was herself a dual winning 3-year-old sprinter rated 82 and is dam of 1 winner from 1 runner to date. Famous Name was an incredibly tough racehorse winning or placed in 35 of the 37 black-type races he contested and winning over €1.5 million in prizemoney – these are his first yearlings. The colt cost €25,000 (approx £18,500) and will be trained by John Quinn.
