The Goffs Orby sale is Ireland’s Premier yearling sale and I was very pleased to purchase 3 horses from the main sale and then 4 from their second sale, the Sportsman. The catalogue was strong on paper and after viewing a large number of the lots on offer I was pleased to pull a good list of potential purchases together.
The first purchase was Lot 69 a Showcasing colt from Eddie O’Leary’s Lynn Lodge Stud. The colt was a half-brother to 3 winners including Listed winner Burke’s Rock and from the family of high-class performer Halicarnassus. He cost €130,000 and will be trained by Paul Cole.
The second purchase was Lot 231 a More Than Ready filly out of the multiple Graded placed filly Tabreed. This filly is a first foal and the dam is half-sister to Group winner Moiqen and Group placed performer Rekaab. She cost €80,000 and will be trained by Simon Crisford.
The third purchase was Lot 388 a Kingman colt (pictured below) out of the Champion older mare Cubanita. Cubanita won the John Porter Stakes Gr.3, St Simon Stakes, Gr.3 and was placed 2nd in the Grosser Preis von Bayern Gr.1. This colt was her first foal and he cost €50,000 and will be trained by Simon Crisford.
The fourth purchase and first in the Sportsman sale was Lot 491 a colt by first season sire Es Que Love. He is the first foal out of the 3-time winning Giant’s Causeway mare Larghetto and was a lovely big, strong colt. He cost just €10,500 and will be trained by William Knight.
The fifth purchase was Lot 599 a Born To Sea colt out of the winning 3-year-old Start The Music. Start The Music is dam of 2 winners from 5 runners including the Royal Ascot Jersey Stakes placed performer Mubtasim and from the family of Champion 2-year-old Grand Lodge. He cost €20,000 and will be trained by John & Sean Quinn.
The sixth purchase was Lot 622 a Bungleinthejungle colt out of the winning Hurricane Run mare Undulant Way. Undulant Way is currently 2 winners from 2 runners including Newsman who won over £60,000 in prize money. He cost €13,000 and will be trained by John & Sean Quinn. He is currently FOR SALE.
The seventh and final purchase was Lot 642 a Dragon Pulse colt ex Add Up. He is the 2nd foal and the first foal named Swiiss has won 5 races at 2 and 3 years in Italy. He was a very smart and sharp looking colt and one of the picks of the whole Sportsman sale so I was delighted to purchase him for €25,000. He will be trained by William Knight and he is currently FOR SALE.
