The yearling sales season is in full swing now and I have just moved on to Goffs from the Tattersalls Ireland sale. The Tattersalls Ireland sale grows in stature and quality every year and this year was undoubtedly the best stock I have ever experienced there. And so it was great to be able to put smart horses up to clients and to be able to come away with 7 horses purchased.
The first purchase was Lot 153 – a Zoffany colt (pictured below) ex Royal Applause mare Queen’s Pudding. Queen’s Pudding was a winning 2-year-old herself and has bred 2 winners from 4 runners and both those winners were 2-year-old winners. This colt is Plus 10 eligible which means in many races next year he could win back approx. £13,500 in one go which is a great benefit to owners. He cost €20,000 and will be trained by John Quinn.
He is FOR SALE.
The second purchase was Lot 171 – a Camacho filly ex Royal Majestic. Royal Majestic won 2 races at 2 years and has bred 3 winners from 3 runners including the Listed winning juvenile Big Time Baby. This filly was purchased on behalf of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Malek Al-Sabah and will be trained by John Quinn. She cost €44,000.
The third purchase was Lot 227 – a Swiss Spirit colt ex Summer Spice. Summer Spice was a winning 2yo and is the dam of 5 winners from 7 runners – she herself is a half-sister to black-type winners Definite Article, Salford City & Salford Express. This colt was a good size and had lots of quality and was purchased on behalf of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Malek Al-Sabah. He cost €60,000 and will be trained by David O’Meara.
The fourth purchase was Lot 404 – a Dandy Man filly ex Dissonance. Dissonance was unraced herself but is the dam of 3 winners from 3 runners including Disko who won at 2 and was 4th in the Empress Stakes, L.R. This was the 2nd time I purchased this filly as I purchased her as a foal and with her owner wanting to sell to make room for more stock I purchased her again this time on behalf of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Malek Al-Sabah. She cost €19,000 and will be trained by John Quinn.
The fifth purchase was Lot 417 – a Fast Company filly ex Elusive Gold. Elusive Gold was a winning 3-year-old and this was just her 2nd foal. Her first foal Jungle Queen by Leroidesanimaux has been placed as a 2-year-old and her trainer Eve Johnson Houghton says she will definitely win which will give a nice boost to this fillies pedigree. This is another yearling with the Plus 10 eligibility so has every chance of recouping 50% of her purchase price with one win. She cost €27,000, will be trained by William Knight and is FOR SALE.
The sixth purchase was Lot 422 – a Dark Angel filly ex Encore View. Encore View is an Oasis Dream mare who was placed at 2 years and her only runner to date Re Run was placed at both 2 and 3 years. Encore View herself is a half-sister to two black-type winners in Oh Beautiful & Freedom’s Light. She cost €40,000 and will be trained by John Quinn.
The seventh and final purchase was Lot 465 – a Zoffany colt ex Green Castle. Green Castle is dam of 8 winners from 9 runners including the black-type winner Ithoughtitwasover and the black-type placed performers Greenisland and Glenmayne. He was purchased for €46,000 on behalf of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Malek Al-Sabah and will be trained by Charles Hills in Lambourn.
