Another busy couple of weeks with the Tattersalls Yearling sales in Newmarket and I was very pleased to purchase 7 horses for various owners and trainers.
The first purchases were in the Tattersalls Book 1 catalogue which is known as the crème de la crème of the yearling sales and the prices follow suit also. With 48 horses selling for 500,000gns or more and 17 making 1 million guineas plus it was tough to buy but I was very pleased with the 3 horses I purchased.
The first horse purchased was Lot 110 a Hard Spun filly and sister to Stakes winner Big Handsome. This was the mare’s second foal and with the first one being a good one I was very pleased to purchase her for just 50,000gns. She will be trained by Mark Johnston.
The second purchase was Lot 119 a Dark Angel colt out of the Kheleyf mare Natty Bumppo. Once again a second foal and the dam is a sister to Group winners Astrophysical Jet and Coral Wave this colt ticked a lot of boxes and was very popular in the ring. Thankfully I was able to purchase him for 200,000gns and he will be trained by Charlie Hills.
The third purchase was Lot 206 an Invincible Spirit colt out of the winning 3-year-old Sharapova. Sharapova herself is dam of 3 winners from 4 runners including two black-type performers, Lottie Dod and Rockaway Valley. This colt cost 150,000gns and will be trained by Charlie Hills.
The fourth purchase and first in Book 2 was Lot 538 a Leroidesanimaux colt (pictured below) out of dual winning Sadler’s Wells mare Kesara. Kesara is dam of 4 winners from 5 runners including Singapore stakes performer Kirks Ryker and 100-rated 2-year-old and full brother to this colt Zaaki. He cost 30,000gns and will be trained by William Knight.
The fifth purchase was Lot 1268 a Nathaniel filly out of Group 3 placed mare Glen Rosie. Glen Rosie is the dam of 6 winners from 8 runners including Listed winner Kings Quay and Listed placed Fastback. She cost 45,000gns and will be trained by John & Sean Quinn.
The sixth purchase was Lot 1282 a New Approach filly out of Hallowed Park who is herself a daughter of Irish 1000 Guineas winner Classic Park. Hallowed Park is dam of 4 winners from 5 runners including the useful performer and full-brother to this filly Stetchworth. She cost 27,000gns and will be trained by John Quinn.
The seventh and final purchase was Lot 1320 a Camacho filly out of the Group 3 placed mare Journalist. Journalist is the dam of 7 winners from 10 runners including 3 black-type placed fillies. She cost 20,000gns and will be trained by John Quinn and is FOR SALE.
