With Doncaster behind me attention turned to Tattersalls Ireland and I was delighted to purchase 8 yearlings on behalf of clients. The sales complex is next door to Fairyhouse racecourse and the sale has grown considerably in stature over the past few years with recent graduates including Galileo Gold and The Wow Signal.
The first lot purchased was Lot 61 a daughter of Canford Cliffs. This filly is the 2nd foal out of the 3-time winner Gems who has produced 1 winner from 1 runner to date. That winner (Fayez) is a horse I know well as I purchased him as a breeze-up horse this year and he has always shown a good level of ability (winning on debut) and I would expect him to progress further next year. Cost €14,000 and will be trained by John Quinn.
The 2nd purchase was Lot 81 a daughter of Dandy Man. This filly is the first foal out of the unraced Herful Schnerful from a fast family. March born she is strong and looks fast and early. Cost €26,000 and will be trained by William Knight.
The 3rd purchase was Lot 87 a daughter of top sire Kodiac. Another first foal out of an Acclamation mare called Highest Praise she is bred to be very speedy. This filly will be early and should be running over 5 and 6 furlongs. Cost €24,000 and will be trained by John Quinn.
The 4th purchase was Lot 112 a son of Camacho. This colt (pictured below) is out of the winning Indian Ridge mare Jacaranda Ridge who was a winner herself and has bred 3 winners including the 104-rated 2-year-old of 2016 Pleaseletmewin. A quality, strong colt who moved exceptionally well he was one of the picks of the 1st day of the sale. Cost €55,000 and will be trained by Tony Carroll.
The fifth purchase was Lot 316 a daughter of Society Rock. Her dam Silk Fan was a 3-time winner at 2 and 3 years and has a 100% record with her runners/winners – 5 from 5 and all rated between 82-103. Cost €19,000 and will be trained by William Knight.
The sixth purchase was Lot 359 a son of Frozen Power. He is the 4th foal out of the In The Wings mare Tea Chest who has produced 2 winners from 2 runners both rated in the high 80’s and early 90’s over 9-10f. He is a big strong colt and if anything like his siblings looks good value. Cost €16,000 and will be trained by John Quinn.
The seventh purchase was Lot 392 a daughter of Red Jazz. She is the 2nd foal out of the unraced Shamardal mare Vexatious who is dam of 1 winner from 1 runner namely the 94-rated 3-time winner Shawaahid. A gorgeous, racy filly (pictured below) she had many admirers and I was delighted to purchase her. Cost €45,000 and will be trained by Tony Carroll.
The eighth and final purchase was Lot 473 a son of Zebedee. He is out of the Barathea mare Beacon Of Hope who is dam of 3 winners from 4 runners and from the family of Middle Park Stakes Gr.1 winner First Trump. Cost €27,000 and will be trained by John Quinn.
