It was great to see Checkandchallenge run such a good race in the Coral Challenge at Sandown on 2nd July and in finishing 2nd he put up what was described as the handicap performance of the season.
Rated 108, poorly drawn and the only 3-year-old in the field, Checkandchallenge finished strongly under William Buick to be beaten only ¾ length by the 105-rated 6-year-old Sinjaari.
Suitably impressed, Timeform rated Checkandchallenge 121p which put him 10th in the list of 3-year-olds of 2022 and ahead of the likes of Epsom runner-up Emily Upjohn. Ahead of him in the list are Guineas and Derby winners including the likes of Desert Crown, Vadeni, Coroebus and Westover.
Checkandchallenge was a 35,000gns Tattersalls Book 2 yearling selection who won on debut as a 2-year-old and then won his 3-year-old seasonal reappearance, the Listed Burradon Stakes. He then ran in the 2000 Guineas Gr.1 but hurt himself in the race and the Coral Challenge over 1 mile was his next start.
Plans ahead include the likes of the Thoroughbred Stakes Group 3 at Glorious Goodwood and the Prix du Moulin Group 1.
