Whilst busy inspecting yearlings for the forthcoming Goffs Orby sale it was great to put the catalogue down and see two of my purchases win Class 3 handicaps at Newmarket today.
First up was horses-in-training purchase The Statesman (pictured below) who only ran and won on Wednesday, but showed he was clearly none the worse for that outing when winning the 10f class 3 handicap in comfortable fashion. The son of Zoffany who is trained by Ian Williams and owned by Randolph & Mortimer Racing was given a cool ride by Manuel Fernandes and won by an authoritative 2 1/2 lengths off a rating of 87.
The second winner was €30,000 Goffs foal purchase Shenanigans. The daughter of Arcano was running her first race since winning at the Glorious Goodwood festival on 1st August and showed what a progressive filly she is when winning by 1 1/4 lengths off a rating of 91. Congratulations to her connections and to trainer Roger Varian. Black-type next !
