Today saw the first day of racing at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting and I was delighted to see Priceless win the Scarborough Stakes Listed Race over 5f. The daughter of Exceed And Excel has always been close to my heart as I both did her mating plan and also purchased her dam Molly Brown.
I had followed Molly Brown through her early years of runners and was always impressed by how she produced decent performers from low-cost coverings. When the chance came to purchase a Kyllachy colt out of her I jumped at the opportunity and purchased him for 40,000gns as a foal. He sold the following year as a yearling and doubled his money selling for £80,000. His name was Brazen and he won 5 races and was rated in the 90’s.
Soon after he was sold the chance came up to purchase Molly Brown herself as a barren mare – she was not expensive due to her age and with her owners more interested in her having a good home. For me there was always only one stallion for her to go to and that was Exceed And Excel. Molly Brown had been such a good producer but she had never had a chance like this and so the mating was done and the resulting foal Priceless was born – the rest as they say is history.
Priceless is the 2nd black-type winning mating plan of 2016 for me after 2-year-old Nations Alexander won the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes in early August. If you are looking for help with your mating plans and nomination bookings please give me a call on 07769 349240 or email [email protected]
