FAQs

From a purchasing perspective I offer foal, yearling, breeze-up, horses-in-training and broodmare selection and purchase. I also offer Racehorse & breeding stock management and matings advice with nominations booking.

I charge the industry standard 5% commission of purchase price (plus VAT) on foal, yearling, breeze-up, horses-in-training and broodmare purchases. Matings advice is a Free service so long as the client books the mating through me and is happy for me to receive the 5% commission offered by the stallion farm which is paid once the nomination has been paid or the mare has had a successful foaling. Racehorse and bloodstock management fees vary depending on which services the client requires and packages are individually tailored to suit the clients needs.

My business has been built on the foundations of trust, honesty and integrity. When people as respected as leading UK trainer William Haggas say ‘he is an excellent judge of a yearling and most of all he is straight and knows how to behave’ you can have the assurance that you are dealing with an honest UK bloodstock agent and racing manager. I am also a member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents UK which means I follow a code of conduct which was agreed between the Federation, the BHA and the sales companies.

Ha ! I would love to be able to do that but no, unfortunately I can’t. What I will say is that I bring over 25 years of industry experience and a proven track record of buying high-class winners at all budgets. I also always aim to purchase the highest level of horse I can and always work to find the best horse at the best price and will very often stop you bidding if I feel the price is too high. With the average horse rated 69 in the UK, I would very much hope we can achieve more than that with every horse I purchase for my clients.

That is a ‘how long is a piece of string question’ and my overriding feeling is always that you need to be comfortable with the amount you are spending on a horse and prepared for the horse to be no good. Essentially it is a numbers game so if you have 10 horses in training you have more chance of 1 being good than if you only have 1 in training. And spending more money does not guarantee you success but it gives you more options. For a yearling in today’s market you want to be thinking of spending between £50,000-£500,000 per horse. My suggestion would be that if you are new to the sport, you budget an amount to spend over 3 years worth of purchasing and split between a team of horses where possible. And remember you will have sales commissions, training fees, etc to budget for as well.

Very much so. I have enjoyed either purchasing and/or managing racehorses & broodmares for a large number of foreign based clients for racing either in the UK or abroad. In particular the Middle East where I have enjoyed working with clients from Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain & Kuwait.

I require all my clients to register with the individual sales companies in the days/weeks prior to a sale where you might be asked to provide a bank reference and/or to clear funds. With this in place the clients will also be required to sign an authority to act form which gives me the permission to act on your behalf in the sale.

The Group 1 winners of Garswood, The Wow Signal and Waikuku would be the best on paper but I have a soft spot for the likes of El Astronaute, Safe Voyage, JM Jungle, Pablo Escobarr, Roberto Escobarr and Checkandchallenge. Those horses were all high-class Group winners but they also showed/showing great longevity in their careers and year in/year out they kept performing.
