The prestigious Glorious Goodwood meeting is one of the highlights of the British racing calendar and I was delighted to have a double with winners purchased on day 1. The Sussex track is one of the most picturesque courses in the World and the quality of racing is of a very high standard similar to that of York’s Ebor meeting and Newmarket’s July meeting.
The first winner was the high-class sprinter El Astronaute who had already won this year at Newmarket’s Craven meeting and Chester’s May meeting. The 4-year-old son of Approve who I purchased as a breeze-up horse for £38,000 was winning his 7th race of his career and this time it was the Class 2 5f handicap in which he made all and held on to win by a short-head. He had speed to burn and there will be plenty more races to be won with him.
Congratulations to his owner Ross Harmon and to his trainers John & Sean Quinn.
The second winner was a €30,000 foal purchase called Shenanigans. By Arcano, Shenanigans is lightly raced to date but has now won or placed in 5 of her 7 starts and this was her best performance to date when winning the class 3 0-95 handicap over 1 mile by 1 3/4 lengths.
Congratulations to her owners Ann Black, M Al Qatani, K M Al Mudhaf and to her trainer Roger Varian.
