It’s Monday 2nd January and Golden Birthday has given the year a great start with victory in a 2 mile novice hurdle at Plumpton. A Cheltenham sale purchase having been placed on his only start in an Irish bumper, Golden Birthday has been the model of consistency since purchase having either won or been placed in 6 of his 7 starts. Since purchase Golden Birthday ran 3rd in two Kempton bumpers before getting off the mark in a bumper at Wincanton in May 2016. He was then put away and given the Summer off and returned to finish 2nd on his hurdling debut before running midfield in a good Newbury hurdle where he was asked for his effort too early.
Today’s race was over 2 miles in soft ground at Plumpton and Golden Birthday was waited with by Noel Fehily and won going away at the line and looks sure to improve further for a step up in trip and on faster ground.
Congratulations to his owner Gary Stevens and to his trainer Harry Fry.
