The Statesman who I purchased from the Tattersalls Horses-in-training sale as a 2yo having been placed in 2 Irish maidens is making into a smart dual purpose horse. The gelded son of Zoffany has been very progressive on the flat this Summer including winning a Class 3 handicap over 10f at Newmarket and earning a flat rating of 93. He then made his debut over hurdles on Wednesday 11th October and won the two-mile contest by 16 lengths. He will likely now head for a Triumph hurdle trial and if that goes according to plan then the Cheltenham Festival could be on his agenda.
Congratulations to his owners Randolph & Mortimer Racing and to his trainer Ian Williams.
