Southdown Lad who I purchased as a yearling for 34,000gns showed what an exciting and progressive 3-year-old he is when winning the 1m 4f Class 2 handicap at Newbury yesterday. The son of Lilbourne Lad has raced 7 times, winning 3 races, 2nd once and 3rd twice from just 7 starts and won yesterday off a rating of 90.
Settled out the back by Silvestre De Sousa having been off the track for 125 days Southdown Lad came with a sweeping run to win by 1 1/2 lengths from The Queen’s runner Mainstream and claim the prize worth over £16,000 to the winner. He will now likely target a valuable 1m 4f handicap at Newmarket in 3 weeks time.
Congratulations to his owner Gordon Roddick and his trainer William Knight.
